Jill Latter
Jill Latter treasured wife, Mum and Grandma passed away peacefully at Rockhampton Mater Hospital on Friday 7th June 2024.
Jill was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2014 and had successful surgery. Unfortunately, 8 years later reoccurrence was found and was inoperable. We learnt that there would be no cure to prevent this illness from taking her life but Jill was determined to fight and willing to try any treatment to achieve her goal – more time with her loved ones. Family was Jill’s everything and more time meant the world to her, and all of us.
Jill endured rounds of chemo - losing her hair, suffering the pains and side effects that many cancer patients endure but her hope, courage and strength never wavered. After chemo was no longer possible, she was offered immunotherapy which for Jill came with many new side effects. Unpleasant and draining for her she continued just as determined to fight for more precious time with her family and friends.
None of this treatment would have been possible without Dr Matthew Burge and the wonderful team at the Rockhampton Mater Hospital. Jill had the upmost faith in Dr Burge as he is the only one who gave her the chance and hope for more time. His care was exceptional and the family will be forever grateful. Jill also held the lovely volunteers in the highest regard, their compassion and support bought her much comfort.
The love and unwavering support from our family, her very dear friends, and her various social groups, all helped to give meaning to Jill’s fight.
It was Jill’s wish that hopefully her time with various treatments would help medical teams to continue to develop further treatments and solutions so that it may help others in the future.
In honouring this wish and in lieu of flowers, we are requesting support from her family and friends to donate to the Mater Foundation in her memory. Contributions will be directed to the Rockhampton Oncology Unit to continue the exceptional care for others locally.
As we remember the life of Jill Latter, remember the good times with her and let us come together to honour her legacy.
